Sleek, stylish and efficient.

The Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid models have a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery (the battery is bigger in the plug-in model) and an electric motor with a gasoline engine for efficient operation. These models also feature next-generatrion SmartGauge® with EcoGuide, providing real-time information to help you drive more efficiently. Another standard feature, regenerative braking, captures 90 percent of the kinetic energy and uses it to recharge the lithium-ion battery. In gas-powered models, three available EcoBoost® engines are designed to optimize efficiency, thanks to turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable cam timing.

Fuel Efficiency

Fusion Hybrid Performance

The 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid has an EPA-estimated rating of 44 city/41 hwy/42 combined mpg.* It has a 2.0L I-4 Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine that delivers 188 total system horsepower. At speeds up to 85 mph, the vehicle can travel in electric mode. To help you drive more efficiently, next-generation SmartGauge® with EcoGuide acts as a driving coach, providing real-time driving feedback, courtesy of screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. Left-side display screens include Engage and Empower modes, providing a variety of real-time information to help you get the most efficiency from your vehicle. When your driving becomes more efficient, the right-side cluster display grows leaves and vines. You can track the powertrain’s operation – hybrid drive, electric drive, gas engine, plus instant and average fuel economy.

Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid

The Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid is a progressive hybrid that provides the option of plugging in or not. The vehicle is designed to be efficient, thanks a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery and electric motor with a gasoline engine. The battery provides enough power to operate in all-electric mode for commutes of an EPA-estimated range of up to 19 miles.* With plug-in capability, you can fully charge the battery overnight using a 120-volt outlet. There is also an available 240-volt home charging station that provides a full recharge in approximately 2.5 hours. When fully charged, the EPA-estimated gas plus electric driving range is 550 miles.** When the battery is depleted or when more power is needed, the vehicle functions as a traditional gas-electric hybrid. It also features a Regenerative Braking System, allowing it to capture the braking energy and store it for later use.

EcoBoost® Engines

The available EcoBoost in-line four-cylinder engines combine three different technologies – turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) – to enhance both performance and efficiency. Available on the 1.5L EcoBoost engine, Auto Start-Stop could help you improve efficiency and lower vehicle emissions. Engine features include:

  • All-aluminum construction
  • Direct fuel injection
  • Single turbocharger
  • Piston cooling jets for durability
  • 1.5L EcoBoost engine, non-start-stop EPA-estimated rating of 24 city/36 hwy/28 combined mpg. Actual mileage will vary.

Aerodynamic Design

Active Grille Shutters can help improve efficiency by altering the shutters behind the grille. Located between the grille opening and the radiator, the shutters are electronically controlled by the engine control module. They open or close to help maintain the ideal engine operating temperature. When less engine cooling is needed, the shutters close to help improve aerodynamics. Standard on hybrid and Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid models.

Next-Generation SmartGauge® with EcoGuide

The dual LCD next-generation SmartGauge® with EcoGuide provides real-time information to help you get the most efficiency from your Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid. The MyView screen lets you customize screens to your liking. Configurable screens such as Brake Coach help you maximize your vehicle’s efficiency. Left-side display screens include Engage and Empower modes. In Engage, you’ll see separate gauges for engine power and lithium-ion battery power and “EV” displayed when the vehicle is operating on lithium-ion battery power only. In Empower, which includes all the information in Engage, you’ll also see how close you are to the gasoline engine on/off threshold and the amount of power being requested based on how far you’re depressing the accelerator pedal. Five-way steering wheel-mounted controls make it all easy. As your driving efficiency increases, the right-side cluster display grows leaves and vines.

Driving Efficiency Tips

There are several recommended driving tips to follow to get more miles per gallon. Our Ford Social site includes several articles on driving efficiency.

Regenerative Braking

When you apply the brakes in a conventional vehicle, kinetic energy is lost to heat due to friction. During braking in the Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid , however, regenerative braking recovers more than 90 percent of this energy and sends it back to the battery pack to be stored for later use.

Available Auto Start-Stop

You could reduce vehicle emissions with available Auto Start-Stop. When the vehicle comes to a stop in city driving, the engine is automatically shut off. The engine seamlessly restarts the instant your foot leaves the brake pedal. Available on the Fusion SE with the available 1.5L I-4 EcoBoost® engine and 17-inch wheels.

Technology

Beyond smart. More like brilliant.

The technology features in the 2016 Ford Fusion can do everything from making your drive more convenient to helping protect you and your passengers in the event of a collision. The standard rear view camera* automatically transmits the image of what’s behind you to your touch screen when you’re slowly backing up. Available voice-activated SYNC® with MyFord Touch®27 allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road while you make music selections, control the interior climate, and place or receive phone calls. Available inflatable second-row safety belts help distribute crash-force energy across more of the torso area than a traditional belt. With your keys in your pocket or purse, available intelligent Access with push-button start allows you to touch the door handle to unlock the driver’s side door or all the doors. Once inside, just press the brake pedal and then the start button. There are also available features that do everything from warning you of vehicles detected in your blind spots to parallel parking your car with minimal input from you.*

Standard Rear View Camera

Put the gear selector in Reverse and the rear view camera* automatically transmits the image of what’s behind you to your touch screen when you’re slowly backing up. The rear view camera is standard on all models.

SYNC® Voice-Activated Technology

It is an easy-to-use in-car connectivity system that allows you to stay connected to your world. Simply pair your Bluetooth48-enabled phone and your compatible MP3 player or USB drive and SYNC does the rest. The system allows you to:

  • Make hands-free calls
  • Control your music with simple voice commands
  • Use your laptop or desktop to map your destination and have the directions sent directly to your vehicle’s available SYNC system
  • Send/receive audible text messages with a compatible mobile phone

SYNC with MyFord Touch adds these features:

  • Just plug in your compatible digital music player, USB drive or SD card and browse your music collection using voice commands
  • Say “Bluetooth® audio” and you can listen wirelessly to whatever’s on your phone, even Pandora® internet radio53
  • Stay connected and you could have your incoming texts read to you with audible text messaging.
  • Voice/touch climate control means you can just tell SYNC with MyFord Touch your preferred temperature and it will adjust to suit you
  • Two screens (depending on the model) on either side of the instrument cluster let you see key features without taking your eyes off the road
  • 911 Assist® can use your connected mobile phone to call 911 when you can’t.28

Available Inflatable Second-Row Safety Belts

The Fusion is the first vehicle in its class* to offer available inflatable rear safety belts. These outboard second-row safety belts help distribute crash-force energy across more of the torso area than a traditional belt, which helps reduce the risk of injury while providing support to the head and neck. In the event of a frontal or side crash, the inflatable safety belts hold the passenger in the appropriate seating position, helping to reduce risk of injury. These safety belts are compatible with many infant and child-safety booster seats.

Available BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert

Radar in the rear quarter panels identifies if a vehicle is detected in your blind spot and the system alerts you with an indicator light in the appropriate sideview mirror. Cross-traffic alert uses radar to watch for traffic behind you when you’re slowly backing out of a parking spot or your driveway. If cross-traffic sensors detect a vehicle approaching from up to 15 yards away, you will be alerted by a visual display in the corresponding mirror and a signal in the message center.

Available Lane-Keeping System

The Lane-Keeping System* includes both the lane-keeping alert and the lane-keeping aid.** A camera mounted behind the windshield watches road lane markings to determine vehicle position and detect a lane departure. The system can operate during the day or night. Lane-keeping alert warns you through a series of steering wheel vibrations, which mimic a rumble strip, should the system detect an unintentional lane departure. Lane-keeping aid actively applies steering torque, which alerts you to direct your vehicle back into the target lane should the system detect an unintended lane departure.

Available Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Warning

Activate the available adaptive cruise control* and it functions just like normal cruise control – with one exception. When adaptive cruise control sensors detect traffic slowing immediately ahead of you, your vehicle also slows down, based on your preset distance. When its sensors detect traffic has cleared, your vehicle returns to the set speed. Forward collision warning with brake support can alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. A heads-up display, which simulates brake lights, flashes on the windshield. If you don’t react in time, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you brake. Available on the SE and Titanium models.

Available Active Park Assist

While you’re driving slowly near parking spots, simply activate available active park assist* and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once an appropriate spot is identified, you’re signaled to stop and accept the system’s assistance. You control the shifting, accelerating and braking. Available on the Fusion and Titanium models.

Available Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start

When the key fob is in your pocket or anywhere on you, you can simply press the button on the door handle to open. Once you’re in, step on the brake pedal, press the power button and go.
